Inspired by military run-flat technology, this airless tire leaves others in the dust. Over 40% lighter than traditional setups, riders are able to customize stiffness using inserts. Best of all, the airless design means no more flat tires. By using finite element analysis (FEA) to predict dynamic behavior, the geometry of this airless tire was optimized for a wide range of riding surfaces and conditions.
STEL used FEA to simulate the dynamic loading the airless wheel would experience in real-world use. Prototypes were created to validate these simulations, as well as provide useful data on tread design across various surface conditions.
